Reading these through, I realize you probably feel a bit like . . . oh dear poor neglected second-born children *sad face*. But the overriding theme isn’t one of neglect, it’s not even really one of a parent who just has less time; a lot of it boils down to a parent who has just learned how to parent and therefore not stress over all of the minors.

Sure having a newborn AND a (shall we say willful?) small child to factor into things should have been a lot harder, and in many physical ways it was—there were two people to cart around, two lots of stuff, two bladders to take care of, two lots of very different needs. I had fewer hands available and needed more patience—and more gin!

But I knew what I was doing (mostly) and that, that alone, makes the shift from one to two much less scary than from zero to one. I’ve heard people say that two to three is easier still but I’ll just have to trust them on that as I have no intention of finding out myself. Until I see a tiny ickle baby and then I’m all like . . .
